It’s midterms and you have to study. A new client is coming in town tomorrow and you want to read up on their mission, budget, and strategic plan.
If you read intently the night before, you’ll be prepared.
But you would have been more prepared for your test or presentation if you had put in shorter bursts of preparation over a longer period of time.
Why?
The spacing effect which states that information is better recalled if exposure to it is repeated over a long span of time rather than a short one.
For example, if you want to learn things about decision making it is best to subscribe to Dr. Z’s weekly newsletter rather than trying to learn everyone at once.
