Today is the TWENTY-SEVENTH episode of The Daily Decision

Control as defined as … to exercise restraint, direction, or influence over

Over oneself or others …

While control can be applied to ourselves (what time we wake up for example) and others …

(as the boss, I dictate the work schedule for our employees …)

Control is less controllable for events …

The Illusion of control bias is the tendency to overestimate our influence over external events.

Like what? Gambling is a good example and the people at The Decision Lab cite in a study in which throwing the dice either harder or softer some participants believed could lead to higher or lower numbers with dice. Of course, one’s power over the dice and especially how they throw the dice is a mirage.

It’s an illusion. What other illusions of control pop up in your life?
